Welcome to Mymy Recipes!
Hi there, I’m Leo Martin, and I’m a 39-year-old self-taught chef from the vibrant heart of South Africa. I grew up in a lively township just outside of Cape Town, where the scent of simmering stews, grilled meats, and freshly baked bread often danced through the air long before you reached someone’s doorstep. Cooking, in my world, has always been more than just a necessity; it’s been the rhythm of life, a language spoken with fire, flavor, and a bit of flair.

My earliest memory in the kitchen is standing on an old wooden crate beside my grandmother, Ma Noma, as she stirred a giant pot of chakalaka over an open flame. She didn’t use recipes—just instinct, laughter, and a deep respect for every ingredient. She taught me that good food doesn’t need to be fancy, but it does need to be honest. That lesson stuck with me.

Over the years, I found myself experimenting with spices from different cultures—Cape Malay curries, isiXhosa umngqusho, a touch of Mediterranean zest here, a bit of Cajun fire there. I’ve never trained in a culinary school, but my kitchen has been my classroom. I’ve burned more pots than I’d like to admit, and I’ve also discovered combinations that made my guests close their eyes and sigh in delight.

Today, I live in a cozy home with a big garden where I grow my own herbs and vegetables. I believe food should be as fresh and local as possible, not just because it tastes better, but because it connects us to the earth and each other. I’m passionate about sharing my recipes with home cooks who want to bring a bit of soul into their cooking. My goal is to show you that amazing meals don’t need expensive tools or exotic ingredients—just heart, patience, and a willingness to get your hands a little dirty.

Whether you’re trying your hand at your first bobotie or just looking to spice up a weeknight dinner, I’m here to share what I’ve learned, one delicious bite at a time. Let’s cook with joy, with courage, and with a whole lot of flavor.

From my kitchen to yours—welcome, and let’s get cooking!
